New Recipe Blog

My kids have asked that I share some of their favorites from childhood.  I was always going to try to put together a cookbook, but never did.  That is where Mortenson Family Favorites Blog came from (see left column).  One day as I was thinking about it and realized how great it would be to have my recipes at my fingertips.  If I am in the store I can quickly look up the recipe and find all the ingredients on my phone.  Last year while I was visiting my sister in Montana.  We drove to Idaho to visit her daughter.  We wanted to make a grape salad we both love, but were at the store and couldn't remember the recipe.  I just pulled out my phone, brought up the recipe and that night we had the delicious grape salad.  Anyway, this has been a great way to keep track of our favorites.  Check out the recipes, you might even find a few with your name on it.  I have kind of limited this to just our family members for the past year, but decided to share them.  I hope you enjoy this as much as we do.

36 wonderful years-

Happy Anniversary Larry

This weekend was fantastic. A real surprise come true. Friday night we stayed at Little America in SLC. The room was beautiful, the food delicious, and the company, well who could ask for better - It was so wonderful we stayed until they about had to kick us out, but I had a big surprise to complete.

After breakfast we checked out of the hotel and went to the farmers market at Pioneer park, then I told Larry I wanted to check out the upcoming events at the Capitol Theater. I would have succeeded in pulling it all off, except he knew something was up when I was willing to pay $5.00 for parking just to "check things out". He didn't say anything until we crossed the street to the theater and I pulled out the tickets - yes, I had bought tickets for this

way back in March in anticipation of our 36th Anniversary. It was so awesome, if you ever get a chance to see it DO NOT MISS IT. It was amazing but unfortunately before we knew it - it was over. Our real anniversary is not until Oct 1, but that is typically conference weekend so we celebrated early. I must say half the fun is in the planning. It was great, so great in fact that we may have to do it again, anniversary or not.

It has been a wonderful 36 years with a wonderful man. He is the most patient, kind, and loving person. Looking forward to 36 more. Love you sweetheart.

A rare picture with Jaxon and his Hat

After over a year of planning we were able to take a family vacation to Florida. Attending were Jason, Suzy, Jaxon, Bryan, Sara, Larry and Kris. Melissa, Norm and Alex were not able to attend, but we want to make sure they travel with us next time. It was just not the same without the entire family.

Our main purpose was to see one of the last shuttle launches. On May 13 we left SLC and on May 14 we were able to see Atlantis as it lifted off. There were so many people there that Larry was brave and stood in the water. He ended up getting some fantastic shots of the lift-off. After Atlantis was in the air for a few seconds we felt and heard the roar. It was quite emotional. Something I will never forget. We spent 3 nights in the Cocoa Beach Area. We visited the Nasa Complex. Jason, Suzy and Jaxon took some behind the scenes tours. They got to go to secured area's. Larry, Bryan, Suzy and I just did the regular tour and it was fantastic. We got to go to the launch pad and to walk through an International Space Center simulator. We saw where they prepare things that are going to be taken to space for the International Space Center. It was great.

After three days (we could have spent more) we went to the beach and Jaxon got his first swim in the ocean. He loved the sand. He even tried to taste it. We then went to Orlando where we rented a 4 bedroom home with a private pool. I think the boys swam everyday. Jaxon did his fair share as well. The day we left he wanted to get in. He went to the sliding glass door and put his hand up as if to say "Swim, Swim".

We spent a day at Epcot. It was hot, but Jaxon did really well. Larry and I were relieved when he took a nap. We spent about 2 hours in a nice air conditioned building while Jason and Suzy got a chance to take in a few rides. We got to take Jaxon on a ride with us - the Lion King. He did very well. He is a very good traveler. We look forward to many more trips with the grandkids.
